Back to Blog

We are very excited to welcome Deb Schimmel to our Chicago editorial team. After more than 23 years in editorial, Deb is an industry vet with well-established relationships and many friends in Chicago. We wanted to formally introduce Deb, so we’ve snagged a few minutes to chat with her—keep reading!

What inspires you?

I’m inspired by travel—every time I go somewhere new, or even somewhere I’ve been before, I return with my brain expanded, full of interesting ideas and experiences. I really believe that getting out in the world makes you a more adventurous, thoughtful, creative and open-minded person, and I try to do it as often as possible.

Do you have a favorite quote or lyric?

“Please, Please, Please, Let Me Get What I Want.”

Why editing? What brings you? What keeps you?

I realized early on that commercial editorial was a perfect fit—it marries my right-brain love of organization and structure with my left-brain desire for creative expression.

I enjoy all parts of the process—sorting through hours of footage searching for the right moments, whittling down the “perfect” 30 seconds, collaborating with interesting people. Every new project is different and challenging and rewarding.

What keeps me? I can honestly say that I have never been bored at work in over 20 years. Being able to say that about any job is pretty amazing.
